LeBron James Misses Lakers' Training Camp Opener Due to Injury
LeBron James skipped the first practice of the Lakers' training camp due to a minor lower-body injury, raising concerns as he approaches the historic 23rd season in the NBA.
LeBron James missed the Los Angeles Lakers’ first training camp practice on Tuesday due to a minor injury.
James is dealing with “a little bit of nerve irritation in the glute,” according to coach JJ Redick, who spoke after the workout at the Lakers’ training facility.
As the Lakers prepare for the upcoming season, which starts on October 21 against the Golden State Warriors, James aims to be the first NBA player to complete 23 seasons. The Lakers are focused on managing the 40-year-old player’s workload to avoid injuries and fatigue during training camp.
Although James may appear in some preseason games, Redick emphasized that the team is thinking long-term with him.
Last season, James was named to the All-NBA second team after averaging 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.8 rebounds while maintaining his health in 70 games. Redick mentioned that keeping James healthy throughout the season is crucial, with the playoffs in mind.
Other players who did not fully participate in the practice include Gabe Vincent (left knee), newcomer Marcus Smart (left Achilles), and rookie Adou Thiero (left knee).
The Lakers’ preseason begins on Friday night against the Phoenix Suns in Palm Desert, California.
