Caitlin Clark Acknowledges Valid Points Raised by Napheesa Collier about WNBA Leadership
Following the Indiana Fever's season, Caitlin Clark spoke out on the significant concerns raised by Napheesa Collier regarding the leadership of WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert.
Caitlin Clark held her exit interview on Thursday after the conclusion of the Indiana Fever’s impressive 2025 season. She stated that fellow WNBA player Napheesa Collier made “a lot of very valid points” regarding WNBA commissioner Cathy Engelbert’s leadership.
Clark described this moment as “the biggest in WNBA history,” emphasizing the need for those in power to ensure the future of the league is secure with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
The Women’s National Basketball Players Association and the WNBA have been engaged in prolonged negotiations regarding a new collective bargaining agreement. Collier, during her exit interview, expressed significant concerns about the league’s leadership, stating, “At some point, everyone deserves to hear the truth from someone who I hope has earned the benefit of the doubt to fight for what is right and fair for our athletes and our fans.” In a pointed criticism, she noted, “We have the best players in the world and fans, but right now we have the worst leadership in the world.”
In a follow-up, Clark expressed her respect for Collier and acknowledged the importance of strong leadership in the current league landscape. She remarked on the necessity for an intentional approach to relationship-building within professional sports, emphasizing that all players come from diverse backgrounds that need to be understood to promote leadership and collaboration effectively.
Clark concluded by affirming her commitment to making the WNBA a league that young girls aspire to join, stating, “We are in the biggest moment in WNBA history. There’s no denying it, and those in power need to ensure the game thrives as we move forward with the CBA. My hope is to impact the future of the league positively, inspiring young girls to follow in our footsteps.”
