Introducing the 2026 World Cup Ball: TRIONDA

Details unveiled about the official match ball for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, named TRIONDA, capturing the essence of host nations.

The official match ball for the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been unveiled and is called TRIONDA.

What to Expect

This ball aims to become iconic, especially as it will be used during Lamine Yamal’s debut World Cup and further enhance Lionel Messi’s legendary status. With excitement building, we can expect it to feature in top moments during the tournament.

Design and Features

The ball combines the names of the three host nations - Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. - into its name: TRIONDA, merging “tri-” (for the co-hosts) and the Spanish word onda, meaning wave. It represents a visual connection to all the matches played in 16 host cities.

Moreover, its design has been influenced by the history of World Cup balls, continuing adidаs’s legacy since 1970. The ball’s distinctive colors (red, green, and blue) highlight the host nations and are accented with gold to reflect the FIFA World Cup trophy. Symbols representing the U.S. (a star), Mexico (an eagle), and Canada (a maple leaf) are embossed throughout the surface.

Solène Störmann, the Global Category Director, shared: “Each arm is dedicated to each host nation and reunites in the middle in the form of a triangle, showcasing how they’re hosting the World Cup together.”

Connected Ball Technology

Inside the TRIONDA is a motion sensor chip. This technology will facilitate faster decisions during matches, sending signals 500 times a second to various points around the stadium.

Hannes Schaefke, Football Innovation Lead at adidas, explained: “We can track every event, every interaction with the ball, and every location is monitored by a local positioning system.”
