Last week, Adonai Mitchell of the Indianapolis Colts lost control of the football while crossing the goal line for an easy touchdown, resulting in a touchback for the opposing team. This week, it happened again.
Arizona Cardinals running back Emari Demercado broke through the Tennessee Titans defense for what seemed like a straightforward 72-yard touchdown. However, Demercado slowed down and dropped the ball just before crossing the goal line.
Thanks to Titans cornerback L’Jarius Sneed for his hustle on this play and his effort to knock the ball loose, but it is apparent that Demercado simply lost grip of the ball beforehand.
What started as a chance for the Cardinals to lead 28-6 turned into a touchback for the Titans. Tennessee capitalized on this turn of events, driving 80 yards down the field to score their first touchdown in two weeks, a crucial momentum shift that ultimately led to their first win of the season in a dramatic comeback.
This situation was further complicated when the Cardinals appeared to have turned the ball over in the red zone against rookie QB Cam Ward, as safety Dadrion Taylor-Demerson intercepted the pass, but then fumbled, allowing Tennessee to recover the ball in the end zone for a touchdown.
