Omarion Hampton's Ankle Injury: Chargers' Rookie Running Back Exits Game Against Commanders

Omarion Hampton sustained an ankle injury during the game against the Washington Commanders and did not return, raising concerns for the Chargers already impacted by injuries.

Overview

Omarion Hampton, the first-round rookie running back for the Los Angeles Chargers, exited the game against the Washington Commanders due to an ankle injury and did not return, raising concerns for a team already plagued by injuries.

The 22nd overall pick from North Carolina, Hampton stepped up in the backfield for the Chargers following Najee Harris’ season-ending Achilles injury. In his recent performances, he showcased impressive skills, including a 129 yards from scrimmage debut combined with a touchdown in a comeback against the Denver Broncos and 165 yards and another touchdown against the New York Giants.

Post-injury, Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal took over the running duties. Haskins, previously drafted in the fourth round by the Tennessee Titans, was instrumental under Jim Harbaugh at Michigan. Vidal, a sixth-round pick from last season, entered the game with no carries recorded this season prior to Sunday.

The Chargers’ offense has been severely impacted by injuries, previously losing Rashawn Slater during training camp for the entire season and currently being without Joe Alt.
