Avalanche Dominate Early in 2025-26 NHL Season Power Rankings

The Colorado Avalanche lead the NHL power rankings after the first week of the 2025-26 season, winning three out of four matches.

As the NHL season kicks off for 2025-26, eight teams remain undefeated in regulation. Among them, the Colorado Avalanche stands out having played four games with significant success. After winning three out of their four matches, their only setback was a shootout against the Dallas Stars.

The Avalanche set a strong tone for the season, previously reaching over 100 points in each of the last four years. They’ve started Week 2 with an NHL-leading seven points, surpassing the reigning Stanley Cup champions, the Florida Panthers, and the Boston Bruins.

Each week, the top ten teams will be ranked based on their performances. Here’s a closer look at the power rankings for the opening week:

NHL Week 1 Power Rankings

1. Colorado Avalanche (3-0-1)

The Avalanche have shown impressive defensive strength, allowing only one goal during their victories against the Kings, Mammoth, and Sabres. Goalie Scott Wedgewood has maintained a goals-against average of 1.72. Meanwhile, Nathan MacKinnon, the 2024 Hart Trophy winner, is tied for second in the league with four goals and leads in points with eight, matching teammate Martin Necas.

2. Florida Panthers (3-1-0)

The Panthers started strong by winning their first three games even without star players Matthew Tkachuk, who is recovering from surgery, and captain Aleksander Barkov, who is out for the season. Nonetheless, their winning streak ended with a loss to the Flyers after a tough showdown.

3. Boston Bruins (3-1-0)

The Bruins kicked off their campaign well but faced a defeat against the Lightning after winning their first three games. Their scoring prowess, however, remains solid as they share the league’s highest goal tally with 13.

4. Nashville Predators (2-0-1)

The Predators have had a promising start, bouncing back from a challenging previous season with two wins and an overtime loss.

5. Dallas Stars (2-0-0)

Despite conceding four goals in their games, the Stars managed to win against top competitors.

6. Carolina Hurricanes (2-0-0)

The Hurricanes have made an impressive start with key players stepping up and scoring multiple goals early in the season.

7. Seattle Kraken (2-0-0)

Winning their first two games marks a historic start for the Kraken, who aim to improve from last season’s struggles.

8. Detroit Red Wings (2-1-0)

After a tough opening match, the Red Wings rebounded by defeating the Maple Leafs in back-to-back matchups.

9. Minnesota Wild (2-1-0)

With a strong power play, the Wild recorded a notable workload in scoring early this season.

10. Winnipeg Jets (2-1-0)

Stars Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele continue their solid performances from last season into the new calendar year.
