The Cincinnati Bengals are reviving their season, bolstered by the surprise acquisition of quarterback Joe Flacco. Just ten days ago, the Bengals were struggling, facing a dire situation before making the historic in-season trade. Flacco showcased his skills in a thrilling game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, leading the Bengals to a 33-31 victory with an impressive 342 yards and three touchdowns despite limited preparation.
Flacco’s ability to connect with his teammates was evident, as Ja’Marr Chase achieved a franchise record with 16 receptions, totaling 161 yards and a touchdown. Even after missing some practice time, Chase expressed his disbelief at the instant chemistry formed with Flacco: “That’s a good question, I don’t know.”
The Bengals’ attacking strategy thrived, as they overcame a struggling ground game. With opponents wary of Flacco’s arm, Chase Brown broke through for 108 rushing yards, marking a significant improvement from their previous performances.
Following the commanding win, head coach Zac Taylor reflected on the unexpected success and Flacco’s adjustment to the team’s system, indicating that the Bengals are now in contention in the AFC North, a division that seems increasingly competitive. He noted, “When the Bengals offense is working, it’s one of the best in the NFL, and right now it’s working.” As the Bengals look forward—including crucial upcoming games against the Jets and Bears—they aim to extend their resurgence under Flacco’s leadership.
