Chiefs' Offensive Lineman Josh Simmons Out Again for Personal Matters

Josh Simmons, the rookie left tackle for the Chiefs, will sit out his second consecutive game due to a family-related issue.

After missing the Chiefs’ Week 6 victory against the Detroit Lions due to a “family situation,” rookie left tackle Josh Simmons is now confirmed to be absent for the Week 7 match against the Las Vegas Raiders after failing to practice during the week.

Simmons, selected as the 32nd overall pick from Ohio State, returned to his home in California prior to the game last week. Head coach Andy Reid has not disclosed many details regarding the situation, indicating limited options when addressing reporters.

Simmons was initially expected to play but was marked as “questionable” on Sunday afternoon, before being ruled out hours later. When questioned about Simmons’ status and whether a return timeline exists, Reid redirected inquiries to general manager Brett Veach, who has taken the lead regarding updates on the situation. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes expressed limited comments, wishing Simmons well privately, stating, “I’m always praying for him. I’ll just keep everything else kind of private to us.”

With Simmons sidelined, backup Jaylon Moore will take over as starting left tackle. Simmons was the only player on the Chiefs’ injury report, while all other players participated fully in practice. Notable participants include running back Brashard Smith and wide receivers Hollywood Brown and Nikko Remigio, among others.

The Chiefs, now with a 3-3 record after their win over the Lions, are set to welcome the Raiders on Sunday.
