Dan Mullen Advocates for Gus Malzahn to Arkansas While Refuting Interest in Coaching Vacancy
In an unexpected move, UNLV coach Dan Mullen publicly endorsed Gus Malzahn for the Arkansas head coaching position while denying any interest in the role.
UNLV coach Dan Mullen recently took a unique stance to quash rumors concerning his interest in the open position at Arkansas. In a statement on social media, he declared, “0.0 interest in Arkansas,” suggesting that the university should consider hiring Gus Malzahn, who currently serves as the offensive coordinator at Florida State and is a former head coach at Auburn.
Mullen, in his inaugural season with UNLV, has led the team to an impressive record of 6-0. His past coaching experience in the SEC includes a successful tenure at Mississippi State, where he took the team to eight consecutive bowl games, and later at Florida.
After parting ways with Pittman, who left behind a 32-34 record at Arkansas, the school is pondering its next move. Mullen’s endorsement of Malzahn comes at a time when the Razorbacks are evaluating potential successors. He believes that Malzahn’s proven track record in the SEC would be beneficial for this role.
