In Dallas, now that the dust has settled around the promotion of Brian Schottenheimer from offensive coordinator to head coach, both Troy Aikman and Dak Prescott are weighing in.
Aikman previously questioned if the Cowboys’ head-coaching vacancy was ‘a coveted job’ and suggested that Jerry Jones’ process didn’t seem to have a clear plan.
Aikman: “I don’t know how much Jerry looked into what he wanted to do when those decisions were made, so it’s easy on the outside to try to make conclusions.”
On the performance side, Dak Prescott has praised Schottenheimer’s ability to build his staff quickly and relationships across the NFL.
Prescott: “He’s been an assistant for a long time, and what I admire is his thorough interviewing process.”
As both players reflect on the changes, Aikman expressed cautions about the team’s trajectory, highlighting the critical role of building an effective game plan that emphasizes running plays and play-action passes.
Aikman remarked, ‘Dallas has some great players and is capable of doing well next season.’
In the 2023 and 2024 seasons, the Cowboys’ offensive strategy underwent significant transitions, with key statistics demonstrating a need to return to effective run game implementations."
