Vanderbilt Rises to the Top 10 in Historic Rankings

A look at the latest AP Top 25 rankings, highlighting Vanderbilt's first-ever entry into the top 10.

The College Football Playoff rankings will experience significant changes after a chaotic Week 8 that reshuffled the entire AP Top 25.

All AP Top 25 teams participated this weekend, with the teams ranked No. 26 (Michigan) and No. 27 (Washington) competing against each other. Week 8 included five matchups between ranked teams and saw nine total losses, leading to expected shifts in Sunday’s new AP Top 25 rankings.

Notably, Clark Lea has done remarkable work at Vanderbilt following their win over LSU. Vanderbilt has historically never ranked above No. 10 in the AP poll, but projections suggest they will surpass that as a leading one-loss team.

Here’s how we predict the new AP Top 25 will look:

1. Ohio State (Last week — 1): Dominating defense on display in Saturday’s 34-0 victory over Wisconsin.

2. Indiana (3): Quarterback Fernando Mendoza threw for 332 yards and four touchdowns in a decisive win.

3. Texas A&M (4): A resilient performance leads them to a 7-0 season record.

4. Alabama (6): Handling of rival Tennessee secures their playoff contention.

5. Oregon (8): A comeback win against Rutgers shows their resilience following a previous loss.

… and so forth for the remaining rankings, highlighting the significant performances and shifts within the college football landscape.
