Diego Pavia's Heisman Moment in Vanderbilt's Landmark Victory Over LSU
Pavia showcases his talents with a standout performance as Vanderbilt edges past LSU, asserting his candidacy for the prestigious Heisman Trophy.
Diego Pavia posed like a Heisman contender after scoring three touchdowns in Vanderbilt’s thrilling 31-24 victory against No. 10 LSU. This celebration is often seen from only the most audacious players in college football, and Pavia embodies this spirit. His pivotal performance has positioned him as a serious candidate for the prestigious award.
Before Pavia’s arrival from New Mexico State, Vanderbilt had not made it to a bowl game in six years. However, under his influence, the team is on course for a potential postseason bid. This latest triumph over LSU signifies a significant milestone as it marked the first time in 176 games that Vanderbilt was favored against a ranked competitor.
In addition to his passing game, Pavia was the standout rusher, leading all players with 86 yards on 17 carries and two rushing touchdowns. Completing 160 passing yards against a formidable defense, he defied the odds and secured a statement victory for the Commodores.
Following his final touchdown sprint, Pavia struck the Heisman pose, drawing praises from Coach Clark Lea, who said, “You can’t watch him play and not realize what a game-changer he is.” Coach Lea also expressed his hope for Pavia to clinch the coveted Heisman award.
Pavia’s Heisman odds surged to +1900, making him one of the frontrunners alongside Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza and Alabama’s Ty Simpson. If Pavia continues his stellar play against upcoming opponents Missouri and Texas, he may very well find himself at the Heisman ceremony in New York City.
