Andy Reid’s first regular-season shutout came with mixed feelings. Following the Chiefs’ 31-0 victory against the Raiders, Reid expressed his sympathy for Pete Carroll, whose team faced overwhelming odds from the start.
Reid stated, “My heart goes out to Pete. The injuries are crushing for him. Especially when 98 (Maxx Crosby) goes out of the game. … I know it’s the Raiders, but I hate seeing that happen.”
Las Vegas has been struggling with injuries, missing several key players including tight end Brock Bowers and receiver Jakobi Meyers. During the match, Crocksby settled on the sidelines with back and knee ailments.
Following the game, Carroll expressed surprise at the outcome, stating, “They’re a terrific team. They did everything like they do. We couldn’t make a first down and couldn’t get off the field.”
Carroll praised his players for their effort, acknowledging that they were simply outmatched as the Chiefs scored on their initial four drives.
Kansas City had a total of 30 first downs compared to only three for the Raiders, with the final tally showing them with 434 total yards while Las Vegas managed just 95.
In a moment of sportsmanship, Reid opted not to push the lead further in the closing minutes.
“The Chiefs are kneeling out with more than 2:30 remaining in the game.”
