The Carolina Panthers secured their third consecutive victory against the New York Jets with a score of 13-6, but lost quarterback Bryce Young to injury in the process. Whether he will miss any games remains uncertain.
Coach Dave Canales noted that Bryce is classified as “day-to-day” with an ankle injury during a press briefing on Monday. “I talked to him this morning and he mentioned, ‘Let’s push this thing. Let’s see what we’ve got.’ So we’re going to try to take that approach and go from there,” Canales stated.
However, NFL Media reported that an MRI confirmed Young has a high ankle sprain and he is anticipated to miss at least the upcoming match against the Buffalo Bills.
Young completed 15 of 25 passes for 138 yards and one touchdown before leaving the game. Veteran Andy Dalton came in as his replacement, succeeding on 4 of 7 passes for 60 yards. Dalton is expected to start in Young’s absence this week.
This setback is particularly unfortunate for Young, who had just achieved his second career win on the road. Throughout the season, the 2023 first overall draft pick managed a completion rate of 61.6%, totaling 1,288 yards with 11 touchdowns and five interceptions.
Currently, the Panthers hold a winning record for the first time since 2021, but Dalton will need to step up to maintain the momentum.
