This season has seen the Minnesota Vikings struggling with uncertainty in the quarterback role. J.J. McCarthy began the season in the first two games but has been out for the last four due to an ankle injury. Meanwhile, veteran Carson Wentz has been performing adequately, yet the Vikings have remained at a middle-of-the-pack 3-3 record, alternating wins and losses weekly.
Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell declared on Tuesday that Wentz will start his fourth consecutive game during Thursday’s matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers. O’Connell also indicated that McCarthy isn’t fully ready yet, as he had a workout earlier in the day. McCarthy will act as the emergency No. 3 quarterback behind Wentz and backup Max Brosmer.
Wentz’s record under center has included two wins and two losses with a completion rate of 66.9%, totaling five touchdowns and four interceptions this season.
On the other hand, Aaron Jones, the running back, is also expected to return after a hamstring injury sustained in Week 2. His presence may provide crucial support to Wentz against a formidable Chargers defense that ranks highly for fewest passing yards allowed.
