SMU Students Call for Action Against Mavericks GM Nico Harrison During a Game

Fans at an SMU basketball game chanted 'Fire Nico' aiming at Mavericks GM Nico Harrison amid dissatisfaction following recent trades.

The Dallas Mavericks have been under fire following the trade of superstar Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. In a recent game against Pittsburgh, fans at Southern Methodist University (SMU) couldn’t hold back their frustration, directing chants of ‘Fire Nico’ at Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison, who was present at the game.

Since the trade, many Mavericks supporters have shown their dissatisfaction through various means, including displaying “Fire Nico” signs at Mavericks games. The situation escalated when a fan was escorted out after mouthing the phrase on the Jumbotron during a game.

“Only caught the tail end in this clip, but the SMU student section started a ‘Fire Nico’ chant. Mavs GM Nico Harrison is sitting in the section right next to them.” — Lia Assimakopoulos (@Lassimak)

This outpouring of sentiment signifies that, although time has passed since the trade, the pain remains fresh for Mavericks fans, and criticism towards Harrison is expected to persist until the situation changes.
