NBA Set to Bring Back Iconic Trophy and Script Logos for 2026 Finals
The NBA will resume painting the Larry O'Brien Trophy and the Final script on the courts for the 2026 Finals, the first time since 2009 and 2014, respectively.
A pair of recognizable and sorely missed logos will make a comeback on the court for the 2026 NBA Finals. The NBA will resume painting the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy and the NBA Finals script on the home team’s court, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. The trophy logo hasn’t graced the court since the 2009 Finals featuring the Los Angeles Lakers against the Orlando Magic, while the Finals script has been absent since the 2014 NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and San Antonio Spurs.
During the 2025 Finals, NBA commissioner Adam Silver remarked that safety concerns led the league to initially forgo logos on the court for its championship games. Silver stated, “One reason we moved away from logos is that there seemed to be a perception they made the court slippery. It felt like we shouldn’t change things during such a critical competition.”
At that time, Silver acknowledged the NBA’s intention to reassess the idea of painting logos on the court. Digital images of the Larry O’Brien Trophy were shown during the previous Finals between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Indiana Pacers.
