Aaron Rodgers Clarifies That Sunday’s Game Against the Packers Is Not a Revenge Match

Aaron Rodgers preps for the Steelers versus Packers clash while reflecting on his time in Green Bay.

While Aaron Rodgers took joy in defeating the Jets earlier this season, he stresses that the same sentiment doesn’t hold for the upcoming game against the Packers, his previous team where he had significant success over 18 years.

“I don’t have any animosity toward the organization, of course, I wish things had ended better when I was there, but I maintain great relationships with many individuals in that organization, and this isn’t a revenge match for me. I’m just looking forward to reconnecting with some of them and being part of ‘Sunday Night Football.’”

Rodgers cherishes his history with Green Bay and wishes it could have concluded more positively. After the Packers drafted Jordan Love in 2020, he responded with two consecutive MVP seasons, playing at an elite level that sparked discussions about his status compared to legends like Brett Favre.

Rodgers’ successful tenure resulted in the Packers winning the NFC North twice, along with securing home-field advantage during the playoffs. However, the team faced disappointments in the playoffs against the eventual champion Buccaneers and the 49ers (Rodgers’ childhood favorite team).

Although battling injuries last year, Rodgers kept playing, leading to a situation that ultimately eliminated them from playoff contention in what was effectively his closing game at Lambeau Field.

“I would have loved to have exited on a high note, but that’s not how things go in this league; I realized my time in Green Bay was winding down when [Jordan] was drafted, and I accepted that if I wanted to continue playing, it would have to be elsewhere. I grasp the circumstances.”

Now, as he prepares for the match against his former team, Rodgers looks to maintain his performance and potentially secure a historic achievement—being one of the few quarterbacks to defeat every team in the NFL.
