UCLA Freshman Sienna Betts Faces Uncertain Future After Bruising Leg Injury
Sienna Betts injured her leg during a preseason scrimmage, casting doubt on her availability for the upcoming season.
UCLA freshman Sienna Betts, the second-ranked player from the class of 2025, was spotted wearing a walking boot during practice after getting injured during a scrimmage against UC Riverside on October 19.
The Bruins are set to begin their 2025-26 season on November 3 against the San Diego State Aztecs. Coach Cori Close reported that there is currently no update on Betts’ injury status or when she might return.
“No, we don’t know yet,” said Close, referencing the injury. “We’re waiting on results from the tweak she had at the scrimmage, and we’ll know more later.”
Despite her limited participation in practice, Betts managed some light shooting while seated.
In another tweet from Ira Gorawara, he mentioned that Betts looks to be moving fine but remains in a walking boot.
Betts, at 6-foot-4, was expected to be a key player for the Bruins. She is the younger sister of UCLA standout Lauren Betts, who had a pivotal role in leading the team to its first NCAA Tournament Final Four last year. Sienna averaged 23 points and 16.5 rebounds during her final year at Grandview High School in Colorado.
Cori Close expressed confidence in Sienna’s strong character, stating:
“There is a strength that Sienna has that is really unmatched. We do the enneagram, which is a personality test, and Sienna is an 8. She just challenges every situation. We need that.”
