The 1-5 Ravens have signed Carl Lawson to enhance their pass rush, confirmed by Lawson on social media. Reports from The Athletic suggest that Lawson is joining the practice squad.
Lawson, who turned 30 this offseason, played with the Dallas Cowboys in 2024. Over 15 games, he recorded 15 tackles, 15 QB hits, and five sacks. This signing marks his return to the AFC North, having been drafted in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft from Auburn by the Cincinnati Bengals.
Previously, Lawson spent four seasons with the Bengals, notching 20 sacks across 51 games and achieving 8.5 sacks in his rookie year. In 2021, he signed a substantial three-year, $45 million contract with the New York Jets but faced a setback due to a season-ending Achilles injury during training camp. He rebounded to record seven sacks in 2022.
The Ravens are in urgent need of pass-rushing support, as defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike has tied the team lead with two sacks despite not playing since Week 2. Additionally, Baltimore previously traded pass rusher Odafe Oweh to the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for safety Alohi Gilman earlier this month.
With only eight total sacks recorded this season, the Ravens are tied with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the fewest in the NFL.
Next up, the Ravens will face the Chicago Bears, who recently secured four consecutive wins after a rough start to the season.
