Kawhi Leonard Takes Time Off to Support Family During LA Fires
Kawhi Leonard has stepped away from the LA Clippers to assist his family amid the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles.
Kawhi Leonard is taking a break from the LA Clippers indefinitely to assist his family in evacuating due to the wildfires affecting the greater Los Angeles area, as confirmed by head coach Tyronn Lue during a press briefing.
“You definitely have to take care of home. … Totally had my support 100%,” said Lue. Translation: “You have to prioritize family during such times. I completely support him.”
The Clippers are currently on a road trip that started in Minnesota and will finish in Denver. Their next home game is set for Saturday at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Los Angeles County.
On the same day, the NHL announced a postponement of the Los Angeles Kings’ game against the Calgary Flames due to the wildfires. The Los Angeles Lakers, who share the same arena, have a game scheduled against the Charlotte Hornets on Thursday.
Lakers head coach JJ Redick’s family has also had to evacuate. In addition, Steve Kerr, head coach of the Golden State Warriors, had to help evacuate his elderly mother due to the fires.
Kawhi Leonard made his season debut in the Clippers’ recent victory over the Atlanta Hawks, playing 19 minutes and scoring 12 points on 4-of-11 shooting.
