Louisiana Governor Criticizes LSU Football Ticket Price Hike After Recent Loss
Governor Jeff Landry questions LSU's decision to raise ticket prices following the team's disappointing defeat against Texas A&M.
After LSU’s recent defeat against Texas A&M, where they lost 49-25, Governor Jeff Landry expressed his dissatisfaction regarding the university’s decision to increase football ticket prices ahead of the 2026 season. The LSU Board of Supervisors has approved a ticket price increase of up to $125 for the upcoming season, which they claim will generate an additional $4.5 million for the athletic department.
“I think @LSUsports and the LSU Board of Supervisors needs to rethink their actions to raise ticket prices for next year after tonight’s showing!”
(Translation: Needs to reconsider raising ticket prices after the recent performance.)
In reaction to this, LSU issued a statement explaining that the price adjustments were made to align ticket costs with market demand. The most sought-after sections will see increases of $125, while other areas may see smaller increments ranging from $25 to $100.
The timing for this price hike has raised eyebrows among LSU fans, particularly as it follows a significant decline in the team’s performance, diminishing their hopes for a College Football Playoff berth. Coach Brian Kelly is currently facing scrutiny following yet another unremarkable season, and this lack of performance has overshadowed the progress made defensively.
Continuing the difficulties, LSU has a tough schedule ahead with matchups against ranked opponents, including No. 4 Alabama after their bye week and a closing game against No. 18 Oklahoma.
