Chiefs vs. Commanders Preview: K.C. Aims for Fifth Win As Washington's Mariota Takes Charge

Kansas City looks to extend its winning streak as they host Washington, which relies on backup quarterback Marcus Mariota following an injury to Jayden Daniels.

In the Week 8 edition of Monday Night Football, the Kansas City Chiefs will host the Washington Commanders.

Kansas City is riding high after a decisive victory against the division-rival Raiders, moving above .500 for the first time this season. The Chiefs have managed to win four out of their last five games after starting the season 0-2, putting them in a great position for the AFC West race.

On the other hand, Washington is coming off a disheartening loss to their division rival, Dallas, which marked their record at 3-4. They will once again rely on backup quarterback Marcus Mariota, as starter Jayden Daniels is out after an injury sustained against the Cowboys.

Will the Chiefs continue their winning streak, or can the Commanders make a comeback? Here’s how you can watch the game.

When the Commanders have the ball

Washington aims to rely on Mariota and their running game, which has shown promise. Mariota has previously started in place of Daniels and excelled with multiple touchdowns in recent weeks. The Commanders boast the best rushing average in the league at 5.3 yards per rush.

In contrast, Kansas City’s defense has tightened significantly, yielding less than 300 yards in recent outings. This strong defensive performance will be put to the test against Mariota and the Commanders’ offense.

When the Chiefs have the ball

Kansas City’s offense is in excellent form with Patrick Mahomes leading an efficient attack. They’ve averaged over 355 yards per game and scored at least 28 points in the last four matches. Opponents have found it challenging to throw against the Chiefs’ defense, which ranks fifth in the league for yards allowed per dropback.

Kansas City has the advantage here, particularly with Mahomes on fire and their defense playing at a high level. Prediction: Chiefs 31, Commanders 13.
