The Indianapolis Colts are thriving, largely thanks to Jonathan Taylor. During a recent victory over the Tennessee Titans, Taylor made history with an impressive 80-yard touchdown run, extending the Colts’ lead to 24-7 early in the third quarter.
With this touchdown, Taylor equals Hall of Famer Earl Campbell for the fourth-most rushing touchdowns in NFL history during a player’s first 75 games.
Interestingly, this milestone was achieved against Campbell’s former team, the Oilers, who later became the Titans. Both Taylor and Campbell have tallied 63 touchdowns in their first 75 games.

Campbell, known for his stellar career, was the NFL MVP in 1979. Although Taylor’s current performance has been MVP-caliber, it’s likely that the title will evade him as a non-quarterback hasn’t clinched it since Adrian Peterson in 2012.
While the MVP might be out of reach, Taylor is making a strong case for Offensive Player of the Year, currently leading the NFL in both rushing yards (697) and touchdowns (10). In this particular game, he amassed 149 yards and two touchdowns on only 10 carries following that memorable 80-yard run.
Taylor, the NFL rushing champion in 2021, is close to reclaiming his status as the top player in his position, a fact that Colts coach Shane Steichen firmly believes.
“He’s the best back in the league right now,” Steichen recently stated. “There’s no doubt.”
