FIFPRO World 11 Nominees: Ronaldo and Messi Lead the Way
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi continue to impress beyond their years, as both were selected among the 26 finalists for the 2025 FIFPRO Men’s World 11. The renowned football icons have earned this acknowledgment for their outstanding performances throughout the 2024-25 season, with them joined by fellow nominees, including Ousmane Dembele, the Ballon d’Or recipient, and Lamine Yamal, a rising star from Barcelona.
Understanding the FIFPRO World 11
The FIFPRO World 11 stands as the sole international football award determined solely by professional athletes, contrasting with the UEFA Men’s Team of the Year, which is voted by fans. The finalists were chosen based on peer votes, requiring players to have participated in at least 30 professional matches between July 15, 2024, and August 3, 2025.
A panel of one goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders, and three forwards will be officially named on November 3.
Messi and Ronaldo’s Legacy
Messi and Ronaldo, giants in football history, are again in the running for FIFPRO accolades. Messi, now playing for Inter Miami, holds the record with 17 appearances in the FIFPRO World 11, while Ronaldo, with 15 nominations, is also eyeing his place.
Recent Achievements
- Lionel Messi: Nominated following a successful stint where he not only led Argentina to the 2026 World Cup qualification in March but also won the 2025 MLS Golden Boot, scoring 29 goals in 28 matches.
- Cristiano Ronaldo: In the 2024-25 season, he netted 35 goals for Al-Nassr, along with seven goals in just eight games this season, placing Portugal on the brink of World Cup qualification.
