Pacers Sign Three-Time Dunk Champion Mac McClung to Contract
The Indiana Pacers have finalized a contract with Mac McClung, marking his first standard NBA deal.
The Indiana Pacers have signed Mac McClung, a three-time NBA dunk champion, to a multiyear contract, marking his first standard NBA deal. According to ESPN, the Pacers are expected to waive former No. 2 overall pick James Wiseman to create space on their roster.
At the age of 26, McClung, who went undrafted out of Texas Tech in 2021, has played in six NBA games with teams such as the Orlando Magic, Philadelphia 76ers, Chicago Bulls, and Los Angeles Lakers. He has averaged 5.5 points, 2.2 assists, and 2.3 rebounds per match, shooting at a rate of 43% from the field.
During his tenure, McClung was named MVP in the NBA G League while playing for the Osceola Magic in 2024 and received All-NBA G League First Team honors in the last two seasons. Known for his remarkable dunking skills, McClung gained fame during his high school years.
In 2023, he participated in the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, achieving perfect 50s on nearly all of his dunks except for one, defeating Trey Murphy III in the finale. He went on to win again in 2024 and in 2025, becoming the first player in NBA history to clinch the dunk contest title thrice. His only competitor to achieve a similar feat is Nate Robinson.
The Pacers are currently facing challenges with an 0-3 season start after last year’s impressive 50-32 record which led them to the NBA Finals. They are dealing with multiple injuries, prompting them to turn to McClung for additional support. Notably, Tyrese Haliburton will miss the entire season due to a torn Achilles suffered in June, alongside injuries affecting Bennedict Mathurin (toe), Obi Toppin (hamstring), Andrew Nembhard (shoulder), Taelon Peter (groin), and Johnny Furphy (foot).
Indiana will play against Cooper Flagg and the Dallas Mavericks this Wednesday.
