NHL Delays Kings' Home Match Due to Wildfires in Los Angeles

The NHL has postponed the Los Angeles Kings' home game amid ongoing wildfires in the region, affecting thousands.

The NHL has postponed the Los Angeles Kings home game against the Calgary Flames scheduled for Wednesday due to several massive wildfires burning across the greater Los Angeles area.

The Kings and Flames were set to clash at the Kings’ arena in downtown LA, while the NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers are expected to host the Charlotte Hornets in the same arena on Thursday.

“Our hearts are with our entire Los Angeles community,” the Kings stated. “We appreciate the hardworking first responders who are diligently working to contain the fire and protect our community. We appreciate the league’s support in keeping our fans, staff, and players safe.”

The NFL is closely monitoring the situation concerning the two Los Angeles teams’ playoff preparations, particularly with the Rams’ wild-card postseason game against the Minnesota Vikings set for Monday at SoFi Stadium.

Three significant wildfires are affecting areas of Los Angeles following two days of extraordinary winds; evacuation orders are in place for at least 70,000 residents, with over 1,000 structures destroyed.

The Rams and the Los Angeles Chargers have adjusted their practices to accommodate health and safety due to air quality concerns.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone affected by the fires,” star Rams receiver Cooper Kupp expressed on social media. “Thank you to the firefighters, first responders, and everyone else doing their best in these unfathomable circumstances.”

Tragically, at least two fatalities have been reported due to the fires affecting areas nearby.

Tickets for the postponed Kings game will remain valid for the rescheduled date, which will be announced later.

This is a developing story.
