The Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets orchestrated a trade involving players and upcoming draft picks ahead of the Nov. 2 trade deadline. The Jets are trading cornerback Michael Carter II along with a seventh-round pick in 2027 to the Eagles in exchange for receiver John Metchie III and a sixth-round pick in 2027, as reported by ESPN.
Carter, at 26 years of age, looks to rejuvenate his career in Philadelphia following a challenging first half of the season with New York, marked by injuries and a reduced role in the Jets’ defense. The Eagles are optimistic that Carter, once regarded as one of the top slot cornerbacks in the NFL, can regain the exceptional form that led to his three-year contract worth $30.75 million before the 2024 season.
To finalize the transaction, Carter has agreed to forfeit the $5 million injury guarantees included in his contract for the 2026 season, according to NFL Media.
This marks the second trade of the year for the 25-year-old Metchie, who was previously traded from Houston to Philadelphia in August. He faced a minimal impact in Philadelphia, recording only four catches for 18 yards across seven games with the reigning champions.
Both players are now heading into contrasting circumstances: Carter joins a competitive Eagles squad currently leading the NFC East and aiming to become the second team after the Patriots to secure back-to-back Super Bowl victories, while Metchie enters a struggling Jets team sitting at 1-7, albeit buoyed by a recent comeback victory against the Bengals.
