Josh Brooks, Georgia's Athletic Director, Declines LSU Role Despite Strong Ties
Brooks, who studied at LSU, refuses to pursue the role of athletic director at the university where he began his career.
The LSU athletic director position has opened up following the departure of Scott Woodward, marking it as a highly sought-after role. However, Josh Brooks, the athletic director of Georgia, has taken himself out of the running. Known as a top candidate due to his LSU connection through his undergraduate studies and early career roles in Louisiana, Brooks clarified that he is dedicated to his current position with Georgia.
Brooks stated on social media:
“Georgia fans – with success often comes speculation, but I want to address it directly. I have not been contacted by anyone at LSU, and more importantly, I have no interest in any other job. My full focus remains on the University of Georgia, our student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans.”
LSU is renowned for being a perennial contender in college sports, especially football, making this role particularly appealing.
Moreover, as LSU seeks a new athletic director, they are also on the lookout for a football coach following the firing of Brian Kelly. Interim athletic director Verge Ausberry will lead this search alongside the LSU Board of Supervisors.
Brooks explained his commitment:
“I am very fortunate to work alongside President Morehead, the Athletic Association Board, Governor Brian Kemp, and the Board of Regents, who share a deep commitment to excellence and to the success of Georgia Athletics. This is home to me, and I’m honored to play a part in the incredible progress we’ve made together. The best days for Georgia Athletics are still ahead, and I look forward to continuing to build on the championship standard we’ve established here in Athens. Let’s go have some fun in Jacksonville! Go Dawgs!”
In his tenure, Brooks has successfully led Georgia’s football program, which has claimed back-to-back national championships.
