After a disappointing exit in last year’s MLS Cup Playoffs, Inter Miami finds themselves in a similar predicament this season. Following a surprising exit against Atlanta United last year, the Herons face a decisive Game 3 against Nashville SC again.
In their recent match, Inter Miami lost 2-1 to Nashville on Saturday. They had previously secured a 3-1 victory in Game 1, fueled by two goals from Lionel Messi. However, rain during the recent match proved detrimental, leading to a poor start that included conceding a penalty in the first 10 minutes and a second goal just before halftime.
Although Messi managed to score a consolation goal late in the match, it won’t be enough as the team prepares for their next critical encounter in Fort Lauderdale.
Both teams managed ten shots, but Nashville’s five were on target compared to Inter Miami’s four. The hosts effectively defended against Miami’s experienced players, frustrating their attempts to capitalize on opportunities.
Another early exit would significantly impact the Herons’ future plans and Head Coach Mascherano’s job security, especially given their expectations of clinching the MLS Cup this year after bolstering their roster with the signing of Argentina international Rodrigo de Paul.
