Trae Young Out for Four Weeks Due to Right Knee Sprain
Star player Trae Young will miss at least a month with a knee injury, presenting challenges for the Hawks.
The Hawks were anticipated to capture momentum this season in the Eastern Conference. However, with a current record of 3-3 and injuries plaguing star point guard Trae Young, the optimism has dimmed.
After Young’s knee injury against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday—resulting from a teammate colliding with him—initial reports were encouraging as it was not determined to be a torn ACL. An MRI on Saturday, however, confirmed a sprained MCL, sidelining him for a minimum of four weeks, with the possibility of a longer recovery.
Young has significantly contributed to the Hawks’ offense over the years, making it difficult for the team to adjust without him. Yet, optimism remains as this season’s roster is considered equipped with stronger depth than in previous years.
How Will the Hawks Compensate for Young’s Absence
The Hawks demonstrated resilience with a 128-108 victory over the Pacers during the NBA Cup, showing potential strategies for succeeding without Young.
Dyson Daniels filled in remarkably as he and Nickeil Alexander-Walker combined for 39 points, while Daniels also recorded six assists and nine rebounds. The duo’s defensive skill will be crucial as the Hawks strive to find offense during Young’s stint on the bench.
Additionally, Jalen Johnson is anticipated to step up after an injury earlier impeded his progress. Against the Pacers, he led the team with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and eight assists. Johnson’s consistent performance will be vital as the Hawks navigate the upcoming challenging schedule against opponents such as the Cavs, Magic, and Lakers.
