The Dodgers are World Series champions, and the 2025-26 offseason is officially here. While we await the arrival of significant signings or trades, which is typical so early in the offseason, here are ten bold predictions for the upcoming year.
1. Bo stays in Toronto
This prediction seems like a given, yet I’m calling it bold. The Blue Jays, fresh from a World Series victory, will likely re-sign their free agents. Bichette has emphasized his desire to stay in Toronto long-term. Expect an eight-year deal worth approximately $250 million, alongside a predicted shift to second base.
2. Tucker’s contract will approach $500 million
Kyle Tucker is expected to sign a deal above $450 million, which might extend across at least twelve years. His value among teams like the Cubs, Dodgers, and Yankees will drive a hefty price.
3. Skubal signs long-term
There’s potential for Tarik Skubal to be traded, but I predict he stays with the Tigers, signing a long-term deal valued around $350 million. This would be the largest contract ever for a pitcher.
4. Alonso and Bregman switch teams
Both players may opt out of their contracts, resulting in a swap. Alonso moving to the Red Sox and Bregman heading to the Mets could enhance both teams’ lineups.
5. Arenado joins Philly
The Phillies will look to change their offense, moving Alec Bohm and bringing Nolan Arenado into the fold, with the Cardinals likely offering a subsidized deal.
6. The Yankees re-sign King
The Yankees may rekindle their relationship with Michael King, addressing their rotation needs after a challenging season plagued with injuries.
7. Alcantara remains a Marlin
Surprisingly, I foresee Sandy Alcantara remaining with the Marlins, especially given that trading conditions have never been better for a lucrative deal.
8. Cease on a short-term deal
Dylan Cease may secure a one-year contract with player options, reflecting a trend of highly regarded free agents settling for shorter terms.
9. Suárez outperforms Valdez in contracts
Despite similar statistics, I see Ranger Suárez receiving a more lucrative deal than Framber Valdez, who will soon turn 32 years old.
10. A long shot wins the draft lottery
A low-odds team is predicted to win the lottery akin to previous years, possibly Texas Rangers, with mere 1.34% chance being favorable for a surprise win.
