In a do-or-die match for Inter Miami in the MLS playoffs, the team faces a setback as Luis Suarez has been suspended. This decision came from the MLS Disciplinary Committee after reviewing footage of the second game against Nashville, where Suarez was found to kick Nashville’s defender, Andy Najar, in the 71st minute.
This suspension is a significant loss for Miami, especially as Suarez has contributed impressively with 14 goals and 15 assists in various competitions this season, second only to Lionel Messi. Now, with Suarez unavailable, manager Javier Mascherano will need to consider alternative strategies to maintain their postseason hopes.
Inter Miami stated, “Inter Miami CF accepts and respects the decision made by the MLS Disciplinary Committee.” They also expressed concern regarding the review of a play that had already been officiated during the match.
This is not the first time Suarez has faced disciplinary action; it marks his second suspension this season following a previous nine-game ban for spitting at a member of the Seattle Sounders staff during the Leagues Cup.
Historically, Suarez has had multiple suspensions for violent conduct, including several notable biting incidents in his career. As Inter Miami approaches this critical playoff tie, the absence of such a pivotal player raises stakes higher than ever. Should they lose, it will certainly mean a long offseason ahead. If the match remains tied after regular time, penalties will follow, further intensifying the pressure.
