The Detroit Lions missed their chance to meet the Philadelphia Eagles this past season. Despite Philadelphia reaching the NFC Championship, the Lions ended their campaign in a disappointing loss to the Washington Commanders.
While the Eagles triumphed in the Super Bowl, the Lions finished strong with a 15-2 season record. Looking ahead, Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown is eager to step up against the Super Bowl champions, as the teams are set to clash next season. He wants the Eagles for the season opener, given the Eagles traditionally host the kickoff game after winning the championship.
St. Brown stated on his podcast with brothers Equanimeous and Osiris, “Eagles have the home opener next year because they won the Super Bowl. Can I read you the list of teams that could be in that first game? Commanders, Cowboys, Giants, Bears, Lions, Raiders, Rams, Broncos. Out of all those teams, if you're the NFL, who are you putting in there?”
His brothers agreed, saying they are rooting for the Lions. St. Brown responded, “That's what I'm saying. So we might be playing opening night. You would see what our healthy defense, how it operates.”
Indeed, the Lions faced injury struggles last season, starting 30 players. They allowed an average of 32.5 points per game in December, which was the most any team has allowed in the Super Bowl era for a December.
Despite the setbacks, St. Brown remains hopeful, emphasizing that playing the Eagles will showcase the Lions’ true capability next season.
