
Marshawn Kneeland, a defensive end for the Dallas Cowboys, tragically lost his life at 24 as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound following a pursuit by police due to a traffic violation.
According to authorities, during the chase, DPS officers lost sight of Kneeland’s vehicle, which was later found in an accident. When searched, Kneeland was discovered deceased with a self-inflicted gunshot wound at around 1:31 am.
Frisco Police detailed that Kneeland had indicated suicidal thoughts, with his girlfriend alerting police after receiving alarming messages.
The Cowboys expressed their condolences, stating, “It is with extreme sadness that the Dallas Cowboys share that Marshawn Kneeland tragically passed away this morning. Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization.”
The NFL observed a moment of silence in remembrance of Kneeland prior to the game between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Denver Broncos.
Kneeland was selected in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft and had just started his second season with the Cowboys. He made an impact on the field, securing his first career sack in his debut game. His last notable play was a touchdown following a blocked punt.
