Vergil Ortiz Overwhelms Erickson Lubin with Second-Round TKO, Prepares for Clash with Jaron 'Boots' Ennis

Vergil Ortiz displayed an impressive performance against Erickson Lubin, leading to a decisive TKO in the second round and setting up a future matchup with Jaron 'Boots' Ennis.

Vergil Ortiz entered Saturday’s bout against Erickson Lubin determined to not only make a statement but also to clinch a significant fight that had previously been elusive in his promising career. After less than two rounds of action, Ortiz found himself in proximity to Jaron “Boots” Ennis, as the two exciting fighters built hype for a potential major showdown in 2026.

Despite realizing the importance of keeping his back off the ropes, Lubin was unrelenting pushed backwards by Ortiz from the outset. Initially, Ortiz exercised caution, strategically selecting moments to unleash jabs and briefly unleashing flurries along the ropes.

Lubin attempted to assert his jab but consistently ended up against the ropes, which ultimately became his downfall in the second round. Ortiz pushed Lubin back once again and continued to land powerful shots. Following a barrage of heavy right hands that stunned Lubin, the referee James Green stepped in to halt the fight at 1:30 of Round 2.

Following the bout, Ortiz’s trainer, Robert Garcia, rushed into the ring to offer support to Lubin.

“There wasn’t much to evaluate,” Ortiz reflected post-fight. “I just capitalized on his mistakes. I took as much information as I could and utilized it. … I kind of felt [the finish would come], but I had to believe in myself and that’s what I did.”

Ennis was present at ringside, signaling that the time was near for their anticipated match.

“I believe this is the fight that needs to happen, man,” Ortiz stated confidently. “I think this is it.”

Upon calling Ennis into the ring, the latter quickly accepted and urged his promoter, Eddie Hearn, to prepare the necessary paperwork for the bout.

“It’s the best fight in boxing,” Ennis declared. “I’m going to show the world why I’m the best in the world. … It doesn’t matter. The time is now. It’s the moment, and I’ll make you pay for everything your team has said.”
