The Houston Texans made a remarkable comeback against the Jacksonville Jaguars, creating NFL history with a final score of 36-29—a score that is unprecedented in the 106-year history of the league.
Yup, we have a scorigami!
With only seven seconds left on the clock, the Texans were leading 30-29 when the Jaguars found themselves at their own 35-yard line. Looking to cover 12 to 15 yards for a potential field goal by Cam Little, the scenario took an unexpected turn. Trevor Lawrence was strip-sacked on that play, and Sheldon Rankins seized the opportunity, returning the fumble for a 32-yard touchdown. This marked the 1,094th distinct final score in NFL history.
BIG MAN TOUCHDOWN TO END IT IN HOUSTON — NFL (@NFL) View Tweet
When a player scores without time remaining on the clock, an extra point is not required. This came into play because a score of 37-29 would not have counted as a scorigami.
Rankins’ touchdown capped a remarkable fourth quarter where the Texans scored 26 points, overcoming a 29-10 deficit. Historically, the Texans had been 0-96 when trailing by 15 points or more entering the fourth quarter.
The crucial comeback was thanks to a resurgent offense and a dominant defense. The Texans’ defense held the Jaguars to just 11 yards in the fourth quarter while forcing two punts, allowing the offense to regain footing. Davis Mills threw for 104 yards and two touchdowns in that final quarter, sealing the comeback with a 14-yard touchdown run—his first lead of the game coming with just 31 seconds remaining.
Mills stood in for C.J. Stroud, who was sidelined due to a concussion. He wrapped up the game with 292 passing yards and two touchdowns.
This victory marks the third scorigami in the 2025 season. Historically, seven scorigami were recorded in the previous season, yet with the increasing difficulty of achieving unique scoring outcomes, it seems unlikely that the NFL will match that record this year.
This encounter is also the second instance in a year where the Jaguars were part of a scorigami, the previous one happening in November 2024 against the Lions. On the other hand, the Texans have participated in four unique scoring games since the commencement of the 2023 season.
In other games during Week 10, the Los Angeles Rams defeated the San Francisco 49ers with a score of 42-26, marking a rarity with only the second occurrence of that score in the NFL’s long history. Similarly, two games ended with a 44-22 scoreline, which had only been recorded once before since 1967 until this season.
As the NFL season progresses, we continue to witness more unique score combinations, adding to the excitement of the game.
