The Ongoing Absence of Key USWNT Players from National Camps
Several prominent players, including Trinity Rodman, Sophia Wilson, and Mallory Swanson, have been missing from recent USWNT camps as they focus on personal matters and injuries.
The U.S. women’s national team (USWNT) and head coach Emma Hayes are preparing to host the SheBelieves Cup, but they will face it without key players Trinity Rodman, Sophia Wilson, and Mallory Swanson. The trio has been absent from recent camps due to various personal issues and health concerns.
Hayes expressed her strategy to develop a larger player pool during the absence of these key stars. She stated, “The way I view it is, I just control what I can control. So they’re not available. So I don’t have to think about it.” Wilson’s personal commitment and Swanson’s rehabilitative time have kept them from participating. Meanwhile, Rodman is still recovering from a recurring back injury.
Overall, while the absence of the attacking line is not ideal, Hayes believes it provides a perfect opportunity for less experienced players to showcase their talents and further develop the national team’s roster for future competitions.
