Cristiano Ronaldo will likely remain available for Portugal during the upcoming World Cup after receiving a probationary ruling for a recent red card. FIFA has declared a three-match ban for Ronaldo, but two of the matches have been postponed due to a one-year probation period.
Ronaldo was suspended for one match after elbowing a player from Ireland during a qualifying match. He played a key role in Portugal’s final qualifying match last week, leading to a decisive 9-1 victory over Armenia, which secured their place in the tournament hosted in North America.
FIFA made it clear that if Ronaldo commits another serious offense during his probation, then the remaining games of his suspension will come into effect. Portugal is expected to play two friendly matches next March, with the World Cup set to kick off on June 11.
In a separate event, Ronaldo was seen at the White House, where he met with President Donald Trump alongside Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, alongside FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who took a selfie with the star player. Notably, Ronaldo has been active in the Saudi league for the last three years, and the nation will be a host for the 2034 World Cup.
