MLB Trade Rumors: Yankees Eye Bellinger Backup Plan, Red Sox Pursue Offense

Latest buzz from MLB regarding potential trades and player signings as teams strategize for the offseason.

December is fast approaching and baseball’s Winter Meetings are just a week away. Expect an influx of trades and free agent signings to generate buzz during the four busiest days of the offseason, which take place in Orlando. In the meantime, here are the latest rumors from Sunday.

Yankees Look at Kyle Tucker as a Backup Plan

The Yankees see Kyle Tucker as a fallback option if signing Cody Bellinger does not materialize, according to the New York Post. While Tucker has been recognized as the offseason’s top free agent, Bellinger, who performed admirably for the Yankees last season, may be more affordable and possesses defensive versatility.

New York is on the hunt for a top outfield free agent even after Trent Grisham’s acceptance of a $22 million qualifying offer. Acquiring Bellinger or Tucker might incite a trade involving Jasson Domínguez, who was not a regular starter towards the end of the season.

Red Sox Eye Offensive Enhancements

Following the acquisition of Sonny Gray, the Red Sox are looking to enhance their offense, which was ranked 15th in home runs in 2025. They are reportedly interested in both Pete Alonso and potentially matching up with Alex Bregman. The team may also target a secondary hitter similar to Jorge Polanco.

The Red Sox need to tackle their corner infield issues and add balance to their left-heavy lineup, signifying the significance of players like Alonso and Bregman. They may explore options to trade away an outfielder, such as Wilyer Abreu or Jarren Duran.

Extension Talks Stalled for Misiorowski

Discussions regarding an extension between the Brewers and young right-handed pitcher Jacob Misiorowski have not advanced. Misiorowski’s free agency isn’t scheduled until the 2031-32 offseason, but the sooner the Brewers finalize an extension, the greater their potential financial benefit may be. History suggests teams seldom sign pitchers with less than one full year of service time to lasting deals.
