After facing multiple challenges and a disappointing 26-7 defeat against the Buffalo Bills, Aaron Rodgers explained his situation, noting the impact of injuries on his performance. In that game, Rodgers completed 10 of 21 passes for just 117 yards, marking one of his less successful outings. A fractured left wrist meant he had to wear a cast during play. He briefly left the game after taking a hard hit resulting in a bloodied nose due to a strip-sack by Joey Bosa.
Despite the struggles, the Steelers are hopeful that Rodgers will improve in the upcoming weeks as he continues to recover from injuries.
“I felt good enough to play, but wasn’t fully ready for all aspects of the game,” he expressed. “I am disappointed in how I performed, as well as the team’s overall offensive output. We need to improve and keep moving forward.”
Rodgers acknowledged some issues related to miscommunication and timing with his receivers. Notably, tight end Darnell Washington was the standout performer, registering two catches for 45 yards, while D.K. Metcalf was largely ineffective again, with only 32 yards. The team’s lackluster offensive showing led to audible discontent from the home crowd.
“I totally understand the fans’ frustration,” Rodgers remarked. “That performance deserved boos. I have faced similar situations in the past.”
Playoff Outlook
The Steelers face vital games ahead, starting with an away match against the Ravens this Sunday, followed by games against Miami, Detroit, Cleveland, and a season finale against Baltimore at home. The future of their playoff aspirations largely hinges on improved offensive performances and the recovery of Rodgers.
He emphasized the need for better coordination in film study sessions to enhance team chemistry moving forward.
Pittsburgh currently sits just outside of the playoff picture at the No. 9 position, trailing the Ravens for the fourth seed, which they currently hold via tiebreakers.
Buffalo’s 23-point run during the second half was disheartening for the Steelers, who’ve lost five out of their last seven games after starting the season at 4-1.
“This is a performance we need to learn from,” stated Pittsburgh’s head coach Mike Tomlin.
