Dick Vitale and Charles Barkley to Collaborate for NCAA Tournament Broadcast

The legendary broadcasters will team up for NCAA Tournament games, marking a notable moment in college basketball history.

For the first time in their illustrious careers, Dick Vitale and Charles Barkley will collaborate in the broadcast booth during an NCAA Tournament game, marking an exciting moment with over a century of combined basketball knowledge. This partnership will debut with the First Four broadcast as part of the coverage from CBS Sports and TNT Sports.

Before this event, they will team up for their inaugural regular-season broadcast for Indiana #22 versus Kentucky #17 on December 13, airing on ESPN. Vitale’s presence is particularly noteworthy given his recent health journey. The 86-year-old Hall of Fame broadcaster shared in September that he is cancer-free following a PET scan after battling melanoma, lymphoma, and laryngeal cancer over the past four years, all successfully treated.

Earlier this year, Vitale returned to broadcasting courtside for Duke’s game against Clemson, marking his first on-air assignment in 22 months. With more than 1,000 games called, he remains one of college basketball’s most cherished voices.

Barkley, an acclaimed analyst with TNT’s Inside the NBA for 25 years, presents a unique style that contrasts with Vitale’s energetic and narrative-driven approach. Together, they will create a broadcast full of personality, humor, and basketball expertise.

“Dick has provided so much to the world of basketball, and we’ve always felt he deserved a chance to call an NCAA Men’s Tournament game, so we’re thrilled he has accepted after multiple invitations,” stated Harold Bryant, CBS Sports’ executive producer. “This pairing on the broadcast will be a must-see event and a fantastic kickoff to the First Four.”

Fans will treasure the opportunity to witness two legends sharing their expertise, ensuring that while the games are pivotal for the teams, the commentary will add to the unforgettable experience.
