Ancelotti Urges Neymar and Vinicius to Maintain Peak Condition for World Cup Selection

Carlo Ancelotti emphasizes that only players in top form will make it to Brazil's 2026 World Cup squad, as Neymar continues to battle injury setbacks.

In a recent statement, Carlo Ancelotti expressed that Neymar and Vinicius Junior must be at “100 percent” to earn a spot on Brazil’s 2026 World Cup team. Ancelotti highlighted that past accolades will not guarantee selection, particularly as Neymar deals with ongoing injury issues following his return to Santos.

Neymar’s Struggles with Injuries
Neymar has faced significant challenges since joining Al-Hilal in 2023, including a severe ACL injury that kept him off the field for nearly 18 months. His recent return to Santos hasn’t gone smoothly, as he has only netted seven goals in 25 matches, overshadowed by continuous fitness concerns.

Santos’ manager, Juan Pablo Vojvoda, confirmed Neymar’s latest absence from training due to knee pain, although he played through discomfort in a match against Sport.

Ancelotti’s Expectations
Ancelotti firmly stated he would not compromise on player fitness, insisting that he would choose players in peak condition regardless of their profiles. He acknowledged Neymar’s exceptional talent but noted how injuries have hampered his career.

Neymar’s Determination
Despite setbacks, Neymar remains hopeful and committed to pushing through. After a game, he shared, “I’m feeling better and better. This injury is sad, it’s annoying. But it’s nothing that will stop me from doing anything.” He is focused on bringing Santos back to prominence while keeping his World Cup aspirations alive.

A Race Against Time
With limited opportunities to play before the World Cup, Neymar’s future looks uncertain, and he may consider a temporary return to Europe for game time as the tournament approaches.
