The reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles once again are facing adversity as they have lost back-to-back games for the second time this season. The Los Angeles Chargers have won four of their last five contests but are dealing with a problem of their own as quarterback Justin Herbert is managing a hand injury.
Philadelphia and Los Angeles strive to put their issues behind them as they face off in Week 14 of the 2025 NFL season at SoFi Stadium on Monday Night Football.
Philadelphia (8-4) had bounced back from consecutive losses to the Denver Broncos and New York Giants by securing four straight victories but squandered a 21-point lead against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 12, leading to a 24-21 defeat, followed by a disappointing home loss to the Chicago Bears by a score of 24-15 last week.
Despite its current struggles, Philadelphia maintains a 1.5-game lead over Dallas in the NFC East. However, the team will need to get back on track offensively, having only managed two touchdowns since early in the second quarter against the Cowboys.
Both touchdowns came from passes by Jalen Hurts to A.J. Brown, who together have accounted for all six of the Eagles’ touchdowns over their last three games. Hurts has run for three scores, leading to a total of eight rushing touchdowns for the team.
On the other hand, Saquon Barkley is having a down year, ranking only 16th in league rushing with 740 yards this season after leading the league last season with 2,005 yards.
The Chargers (8-4) recently ended a three-game winning streak with a humiliating 35-6 defeat against the Jacksonville Jaguars but returned successfully last week, defeating the Las Vegas Raiders 31-14. Herbert, however, fractured his non-throwing hand in the win and had surgery, putting his status for the game on Monday in doubt.
With Trey Lance as the backup, the Chargers would hope to have Herbert play if they are to defeat the Eagles and avoid Philadelphia’s third consecutive loss. Herbert has been among the league’s top quarterbacks this season, ranking 8th with 2,842 passing yards.
Defensively, the Eagles will be without Jalen Carter, who is sidelined after undergoing shoulder surgeries. Philadelphia ranks as the 25th team in the NFL for total defense, averaging 347.2 yards allowed, while the Chargers are 3rd (275.3 yards).
The Chargers, currently in second place in the AFC West, trail the division-leading Denver Broncos by two games. They hold the first wild card spot in the conference but are just one game ahead of the Houston Texans (7-5).
As such, SportsLine’s Inside the Lines team believes that a loss to the Eagles would significantly impact Los Angeles’ playoff chances, but also notes that a setback for the Eagles would not severely damage their playoff hopes.
