Iowa State Announces the Hiring of Jimmy Rogers as New Coach
Iowa State has named Jimmy Rogers, formerly of Washington State, as the new head coach following Matt Campbell's departure.
Iowa State has officially hired Jimmy Rogers from Washington State as the new head coach, succeeding Matt Campbell, as announced on Friday. Campbell has taken a position at Penn State following a search that began after James Franklin was let go last October.
Rogers, aged 38, finished his short tenure at Washington State with a 6-6 record this past season. His team faced tough competition with a schedule comprising mostly non-conference games in the Pac-12, including closely contested games against Ole Miss and Virginia, both losses by five points collectively. Under Rogers, Washington State made it to a bowl game, a notable achievement for a first-year coach.
Jamie Pollard, Iowa State’s Athletic Director, praised Rogers, stating, “He is a rising star in college athletics with strong ties to the Midwest. I was impressed by his dedication to Iowa State from our initial meeting.”
Prior to his stint at Washington State, Rogers enjoyed immense success as coach of South Dakota State, leading the team to an undefeated 15-0 record in 2023 and capturing the FCS championship. He then followed up in 2024 with a 12-3 record and advancing to the semifinals of the FCS as well.
Now at Iowa State, he aims to build on the legacy left by Campbell, who is recognized as the program’s most successful coach with a 72-55 record.
