World Cup 2026: Haiti’s Historic Journey
Haiti has qualified for the World Cup for the first time since 1974. Under the leadership of Coach Sebastien Migne, the team aims to make a significant impact despite the challenges they faced during qualifying. Every game they played was away due to safety concerns in their homeland, hence gaining experience in hostile environments, preparing them well for the upcoming tournament.
Migne reflected on the team’s remarkable journey, stating, “Haiti is unfortunately going through a difficult period” and emphasized the crucial role of FIFA in supporting the national team through various initiatives.
FIFA’s Jair Bertoni remarked on the investments made to stabilize soccer in Haiti, which have proven greatly successful. He highlighted the normalization committee’s work in enabling players from Haiti to train and compete, even arranging camps outside the country when necessary.
As Haiti faces strong competitors like Brazil and Morocco in Group C, their successes are already seen as groundbreaking for a nation that has been facing adversity both on and off the field. With determined spirits and strong support from the Haitian diaspora, they aim to surprise many in the tournament.
