Is This the Breaking Point for Salah? Liverpool Icon Excluded from Champions League Roster

Mohamed Salah's omission from Liverpool's Champions League squad raises questions about his future at the club after public criticism.

Arne Slot has not spoken to Mohamed Salah since the Liverpool star publicly criticized the club, except for informing him he wouldn’t be part of the squad for the Champions League match against Inter Milan.

Salah was not included in the 19-player roster traveling to Italy for Tuesday’s game, even though he appeared to be in good spirits during training.

“We let him know that he’s not traveling with us. So that was the only communication that’s been there from us to him,” said Coach Slot during his pre-match press conference on Monday, which was heavily focused on Salah.
Translation: We informed him that he would not be part of the traveling squad. That was our only interaction with him.

Slot added that the Egyptian forward’s response was brief.

Salah vented on Saturday after being benched for the third consecutive match, expressing that it seems the club has “thrown me under the bus,” and that he has no “relationship” with Slot.

Slot commented on Monday: “That’s not the way I feel, but he has the right to perceive things differently. I hadn’t sensed any issues until Saturday evening, although it’s common for players to react emotionally when sidelined. However, he was respectful to my staff and trained hard.”

This reaction surprised me, particularly following his outburst after the game. But such feelings are not unusual for players who are not playing. My stance remains that he is not part of the team for tonight’s match.
Translation: According to Slot, it is common for players to feel frustrated when they do not play, but he noted Salah’s respect towards teammates and commitment in training.

Salah has won two Premier League titles and a Champions League during his successful eight years at Anfield, signing a two-year contract extension in April just prior to earning his second Premier League player of the season award.

He is slated to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations with Egypt this month before the January transfer window opens.

Slot remarked that this incident does not necessarily indicate the end of Salah’s tenure at the club, stating: “I believe there is always a chance for a player to return. That is all I can say.”
Translation: Slot expressed hope that there remains a possibility for Salah’s return to the squad.
