FRISCO, Texas – When the Dallas Cowboys traded for wide receiver George Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers, they anticipated the impact he’d have. Throughout the 2025 season, he has showcased his skills, ranking among the top receivers in several categories: 78 catches (7th in NFL), 1,179 yards (3rd), 8 touchdowns (tied for 5th), and 62 first downs (2nd).
However, during a disappointing Week 14 loss (44-30) against the Detroit Lions, questions were raised regarding his commitment. Acclaimed cornerback Richard Sherman labeled Pickens as ‘uninterested’ during the game, noting his lackluster performance when CeeDee Lamb left the match early due to a concussion.
“George Pickens throughout the game, especially late in the game, just looked uninterested. Uninterested in playing football,” Sherman remarked.
Comments on social media further fueled the discussion, prompting Pickens to respond on Instagram after the game. Despite the outside noise, both head coach Brian Schottenheimer and teammate Lamb maintain their faith in Pickens.
“We talked a little bit about it. In his words, he said ‘Hey Schotty, I didn’t play my best game,’” Schottenheimer explained.
Lamb, who also faced criticism in earlier seasons, defended Pickens, suggesting that the criticism is unwarranted given Pickens’ overall season performance.
As they head into a crucial matchup against the Minnesota Vikings, the Cowboys’ survival in the playoff race will hinge on Pickens’ ability to bounce back.
