JuJu Watkins Shines Despite Injury at USA Basketball Camp

JuJu Watkins, sidelined due to an ACL injury, finds fulfillment in attending the USA Basketball Senior Women's Team camp, absorbing valuable lessons for her future as a player.

JuJu Watkins is living her dream by participating in her first USA Basketball Senior Women’s Team camp. “It was definitely like a pinch-me moment when I got the invite,” said the USC sophomore, despite being sidelined with an ACL injury suffered during the 2025 NCAA Tournament. Although she won’t be on the court, Watkins aims to absorb as much knowledge as she can and apply it once she returns.

Watkins remarked, “Honestly, just being there and feeling the energy… hearing everybody’s voices, the communication, and leadership brings up your standard.”

Head coach Kara Lawson emphasized the importance of having Watkins at camp, indicating that her future role within the program is vital. Sue Bird expressed her hopes for Watkins to learn from seasoned players, helping to shape her into a leader for USC.

Although her experience is different than expected, Watkins is thrilled to be in attendance. “To see this dream come true is definitely satisfying,” she stated. Joining her at the camp are only two NCAA players, which highlights the respect both she and UCLA’s Lauren Betts command. Kiki Iriafen noted, “JuJu is one of two college players here, showcasing her talent and spirit, and we eagerly await her return to the court.”

While sidelined, Watkins views this as a unique chance to observe and understand the rigors and expectations of coaching at a national level, enhancing her game intelligence and preparation for future competition.
