Kristaps Porziņģis Set to Sit Out Two Weeks Due to Illness
The Atlanta Hawks will be without Kristaps Porziņģis for at least two weeks as he battles an undisclosed illness, missing several games.
Kristaps Porziņģis, the prominent center for the Atlanta Hawks, is slated to miss a minimum of two weeks due to ongoing health issues. This decision comes as he is undergoing additional assessments regarding his condition, which has already forced him to skip six out of the Hawks’ last seven games. The team prioritizes his long-term health over the short-term, focusing on a successful season ahead.
This isn’t Porziņģis’s first encounter with health troubles. During the 2025 NBA playoffs with the Boston Celtics, he faced mysterious symptoms, expressing, > “The breathing wasn’t good. I did everything I could potentially to feel as good as I could, but my engine wasn’t running the way I wanted.”
He averaged a lackluster performance in the postpartum season, likened to his earlier struggles, eventually diagnosed with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS).
Porziņģis had managed to return to the court for the Latvian national team during EuroBasket this past summer, where he put up impressive statistics, scoring an average of 20.2 points alongside 8.7 rebounds in six tournaments.
More importantly, Porziņģis clarified earlier this month that the current ailment does not appear linked to POTS, stating, > “No, I wouldn’t say it’s the same thing. I just wasn’t feeling too good, honestly. Just not being healthy healthy, you know? But I wouldn’t say it’s the same stuff from last season, so that’s good. I think I kind of put that behind me even this summer playing for the national team, but anyway, just catching whatever it’s frustrating, you know? I want to be healthy. And I will be healthy.”
The Hawks hope to resolve his illness promptly, given his proven capability to provide impactful performances on both ends of the floor.
